GRMC Adjusts Most Recent Visitation Policy

(Saturday, August 8, 2020; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) has made the difficult decision to revert to stricter visitation guidelines in response to the recent increased number of positive COVID cases. We are aware that this will place emotional hardship on patients and their family members, but we ask for your understanding.

Effective Monday, August 10, 2020 at 9:00 am, GRMC will implement the following guidelines for visitors until further notice:

Medical Telemetry and Surgical Nursing Units

Inpatients will be allowed one visitor during the patient’s one-hour assigned visitation period. No visitation extensions will be granted. GRMC reminds inpatient visitors that visitation times are pre-assigned for each room. If visitors do not know the patient’s assigned time, they should contact Customer Relations at 645-5500.

For those unable to visit their loved ones, GRMC can arrange for a “virtual visit” via video conference calling and one of the donated tablets for the patient to see their family via the internet.

Comfort Care Patients

Patients on comfort care will only be allowed one visitor a day during visiting hours, which are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Intensive Care Unit

ICU patients will be allowed one visitor for one hour per day.

Emergency Department (ED)

No visitors will be allowed in the Emergency department, except children who may be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian. Patients with special needs who require assistance with communication may be allowed one companion at bedside.

Anyone going to the ED must enter through the ED entrance only. Companions of adult patients who are not special needs will not be allowed in the ED, they may choose to wait in the ED Visitors parking area.

Specialty Clinics

Outpatients who require assistance getting to and from their appointments are allowed one companion per patient. Outpatients and their companion must enter through the Main Lobby or east entrance of the hospital. The companion must check in at the Customer Relations desk and receive an orange badge.

Surgical Patients

Companions will not be allowed to wait in the 2nd floor lobby area while patients are undergoing procedures or being assessed for surgery. The designated companion will be asked to leave their name and contact number and will be notified when the patient’s procedure is finished. Morgue Viewing Viewings in the morgue will now be limited to no more than five (5) people for one hour. Visitors are not allowed to roam to other areas of the hospital. The only exception is to go to BOKA CITY cafeteria, City Café, ATM, gift shop, or the vending machines on the first floor. GRMC will continue to observe its “No Food Allowed” policy and no food will be allowed into patient rooms. This is a tough time for everyone and these stricter measures are being put in place for the safety of patients, staff, and visitors. Please note GRMC will enforce its “no mask, no entry” policy and reminds the public that valved masks are not allowed. Visitors will be required to have their temperature taken and may be asked to provide a photo ID.
