Bringing Outside Food for Patients

Simple reminders to keep them SAFE

Aligned with the patient's medical care:

  • Consult the Attending Physician/Dietitian/Nurse about the patient's diet and restrictions.
  • Make sure the patient is following their prescribed diet.

For safety with food:

  • Wash hands before and after touching food.
  • Check food for safe preparation and transport.
  • Use insulator bags for transporting food to keep it at the correct temperature.
  • Discard food left at room temperature for over (2) two hours to prevent bacteria growth.
  • Outside food and drinks should be ready to eat/drink, no extra prep required.
  • Avoid raw, undercooked, or unpasteurized food to prevent food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli, etc.

For storage and disposal:

  • No storage or heating of outside food. Throw away any leftovers.
  • Make sure the patient is following their prescribed diet.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or require further information regarding our dietary services, please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff, who will be happy to assist you.
