Guam Regional Medical City Ranked as a Leading Employer in “2024 Best Companies” Survey
(Friday, August 30, 2024) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) is recognized as one of the
island’s best companies to work for, as highlighted by the Guam Business Magazine “Best
Companies to Work For” island-wide survey.

GRMC employees participated in the survey, responding to questions based on a five-point
scale with responses ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree.” The survey consisted
of six categories: Attraction and Retention, Communication, Working Environment, Leadership,
Decision Making, and Performance Management and Recognition. GRMC achieved an overall
rating of 4.25, placing it among Guam’s top companies to work for.
Communication and Culture

The highest scoring category for GRMC was “Communication,” where the company averaged a
4.33. In this category, employees answered questions regarding their awareness of company
changes, opportunities to express concerns, and whether they received an official orientation.

GRMC takes pride in cultivating a healthy and safe work culture that promotes inclusivity,
opportunity to voice opinions, and acknowledging the hard work and dedication of its staff.
“At GRMC, everyone has a seat at the table. Everyone is provided with the necessary tools and
resources to succeed. We want to ensure that our staff have an opportunity to excel and
explore areas in the hospital that they would not have otherwise thought possible,” says
Charlotte Huntsman, GRMC’s Chief Human Resources Officer.

GRMC’s commitment to transparent and effective communication has fostered a culture of
openness and trust. Employee well-being and development are essential to the success of the
organization. The hospital offers career growth opportunities and a strong emphasis on mental
health support.

“I feel honored to serve as part of GRMC’s pioneering Human Resources team and help lead the
Human Experience space at GRMC. The support, career development, and mentorship I’ve
received have been instrumental in my growth as a professional. Over the years, I’ve witnessed
GRMC’s commitment to excellence and focus on creating an outstanding workplace. The
recognition, benefits, career development, and mental health support from our organization,
leaders, and stakeholders make me feel deeply appreciated, valued, and cared for. It fills me
with pride to be part of GRMC, where enhancing employee experiences is as important as the
exceptional care we provide to our patients. Working alongside such dedicated colleagues is
truly humbling,” quotes Cristal Vasquez, GRMC Director of Human Resources and Experience.
The GRMC Familia Spirit

“One of our organizational goals is to create “joy” in the workplace,” says Huntsman. She says
that through the Human Experience Department, they celebrate GRMC staff by recognition and
rewards for performance, patient and customer recognition, and employee partner recognition,
to name a few.

GRMC fosters a team-oriented culture where respect, trust, and care are paramount.
Employees feel like they are part of a family, working together to achieve the best outcomes for
both their colleagues and patients.

Gerry Topacio, GRMC’s Facilities Life Safety Lead and Employee of the Quarter says, “GRMC is
my second family, the people here treat each with respect, trust and care for one another. We
work as a team and I aspire to be the best for my team.”

This sense of teamwork and family extends across all departments at GRMC. Employees in
every area, from clinical to administrative roles, contribute to providing exceptional healthcare
to the people of Guam.

“Working at Guam Regional Medical City for nearly 8 years has been an incredibly rewarding
experience. The supportive and collaborative environment fostered by my colleagues and the
administration has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. I’ve had the
privilege of working in several departments and grow in my career working in areas like
Pediatrics, Emergency Department, and Medical-Surgical, in which I feel no matter what area I
was in or the team I work with—we are dedicated to provide exceptional healthcare to our
community to the best of our ability which has been fulfilling to see the positive impact of our
efforts on patients’ lives. The challenges and opportunities I’ve encountered have shaped me
into a more resilient and compassionate professional, and I am grateful for the lasting
relationships and memories I’ve built during my time here,” says Vanessa Tudela, GRMC’s
Medical-Surgical Nurse Manager.

Jayson Duban, GRMC’s IT Tech Supervisor and 2023 Employee of the Year, quotes, “GRMC has
been a cornerstone of my professional growth and personal fulfillment. The supportive
environment, collaborative culture, and the chance to take on meaningful challenges have been
instrumental in my career development. In addition, working in the IT Help Desk at GRMC has
been incredibly rewarding. Supporting both employees and patients with their IT needs, I’ve
witnessed firsthand how our collaborative and supportive work culture makes a real difference.
What truly sets GRMC apart is its dedication to the well-being and success of its employees.”
