GRMC to Suspend All Visiting Hours as Guam Returns to PCOR-1 Status

GRMC to Suspend All Visiting Hours as Guam Returns to PCOR-1 Status
Visitation Canceled Until Further Notice Effective Sunday, August 16 at 12:01 AM

(Friday, August 14, 2020; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) will suspend all visitation in response to the Governor’s Executive Order returning the island to PCOR-1, the most serious condition for COVID-19. The cancellation of all visiting hours will go into effect on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 12:01 AM and remain for a minimum of two weeks.

The suspension of visiting hours will affect all departments. There will be no visitors allowed in any of our units or departments, including the Med/Tele or Med/Surg units, ICU, all Specialty Clinics and the Emergency Room. No companions will be allowed to escort patients to their Surgical appointments or consultations.

Viewings at the morgue will now be limited to 30 minutes and no more than five (5) people may attend. There will be no extensions allowed or rotation of individuals during the 30-minute period. Viewers must enter through the Lower Level entrance in back of the hospital.

LIMITED EXCEPTIONS TO “NO VISITORS” RULE

No visitors will be allowed in the Specialty Clinics’ waiting areas, the only exception is for special needs patients requiring assistance who will be allowed one companion to escort them.
The only exceptions for the Emergency Room are for children who may be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian. Adults with special needs that require assistance with communication will be allowed one companion in the ER only.

Visitors are not allowed to roam to other areas of the hospital but may go to BOKA CITY, City Café, the gift shop, ATM and vending machines on the first floor.

As Guam’s coronavirus cases continue to increase, it is imperative that GRMC take the strongest precautions to protect our patients and staff. It is urgent that everyone on Guam play an active role in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitizer, practice social distancing and wear a mask!

Please be aware that masks with valves do not prevent virus particles from escaping when you exhale, which puts others at risk. GRMC insists everyone entering the hospital wear a mask and valved masks are not acceptable or allowed. These policies apply to staff and patients.
