GRMC to begin the 2019 SHInE Program

(Monday, June 3, 2019; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) will begin its summer internship program again this month for students interested in a career in healthcare. The Summer Hospital Internship Experience (SHInE) will feature two sessions and offer participants an opportunity to shadow healthcare professionals at GRMC while learning key competencies in each profession. The experiences SHInE participants receive will have a positive impact on future college and work applications.

“This is the second time we’re hosting the SHInE Program. Last summer’s sessions were very successful, and the high demand made the decision to continue as a summer tradition an easy one,” said Chief Medical Officer Felix T. Cabrera, M.D., “It takes a large team of professionals to deliver high value care to our patients. We have made it a goal in the SHInE Program to ensure they all have great exposure to the different careers that exist in healthcare, many of which they might not have known existed until entering the program. We need to develop the healthcare workforce and there’s no better place to start than here at home.”

The first session will be from June 17 to July 5 and the second session is scheduled for July 15 to August 2. The SHInE Program is open to anyone age 18 and older. Applicants must include a 500 – 750-word essay describing why they’re interested in being in the medical field and how they anticipate the SHInE program will benefit them in their career choice.  The application form can be downloaded from GRMC’s website at www.grmc.gu. It is also available on GRMC’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 7, 2019.
