GRMC Launches Allscripts Software

(Friday, May 24, 2019; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) has upgraded to latest software from Allscripts, a vendor of electronic health record (EHR) systems for physician practices, hospitals and healthcare systems. The Allscripts version 17.3 software was successfully installed on Saturday, May 4 and provides an open platform for multiple departments involved in patient care to instantly access patient information. The integration of patient information will improve interdepartmental communication and provide more personalized healthcare to patients.

The Allscripts software allows physicians, nurses, laboratory and radiology technologists, pharmacists and other staff to immediately access a patient’s electronic health records to write notes, prescriptions and treatment orders, schedule testing and procedures, and follow up while interacting with the patient. Allscripts also provides financial management to insure billing is implemented correctly and timely throughout the course of the patient’s treatment.

The upgrade of Allscripts at GRMC was an institutional project that involved the combined efforts of the hospital’s Information Technology, Medical, Nursing, Ancillary Services, Finance, Environment of Care, and Human Resources divisions. Allscripts personnel provided support and worked with GRMC staff to successfully launch the software.

“GRMC is currently exploring the feasibility of extending the platform to other healthcare entities on Guam. By being under one system, this opens the access to a patient’s medical records who had care at a different clinic or hospital.  This would significantly improve the quality and safety outcomes for our mutual patients. Furthermore, a successful partnership would also subsidize the cost of having and maintaining an EHR system,” said Dr. Felix T. Cabrera, SVP and Chief Medical Officer.

Allscripts software is certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), as part of the 2019 CMS requirement that all eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, dual-eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals use certified electronic health record technology (CEHRT).

The updated software functionalities from Allscripts will provide GRMC an opportunity to further improve patient care throughout the patient’s experience and ensure accurate billing occurs in real time.
