(Wednesday, April 9, 2019; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) has brought Hugh King onboard as Chief Restructuring Officer to streamline operations and improve procedures at the hospital to ensure it operates at optimum efficiency. King is an expert in US hospital standards that meet the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines and best practices nationwide.
“We decided to engage someone of Hugh’s caliber to review our practices and re-address some of our previous practices to ensure we continue to meet and exceed US standards,” said CEO and president Michael Cruz, M.D., “Although GRMC has secured accreditation from both The Joint Commission and the CMS, we won’t rest on our laurels and will continue seeking ways to improve. Hugh will assist us in achieving these goals by helping GRMC to be more efficient with our operations and finances.”
King has over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry and 15 years as a hospital executive. His expertise lies in strategic business planning and execution, improvement in financial and clinical operations, and strategic financial planning. King has worked throughout the US at some of the country’s leading hospitals to implement US systems of care, more effective billing practices and to achieve tremendous cost savings by eliminating unnecessary overhead.
“I have worked as a C-Suite executive in multi-hospital systems in six states, including Florida, Texas and California as a CEO, COO, and CFO. You could put GRMC in any big city and it would be equal to or better than the best hospital there. In most places, it would be the best,” said King, “The US system is probably the most complex in the world, but its what we’ve got to work with because of the highly regulated environment. The staff at GRMC is the most intelligent, well-educated and committed team I have encountered in my career. They’re already absorbing what I have to share so I’m highly optimistic about GRMC.”
King holds a Masters in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University – Cox School of Business and a CPA from the State of Indiana.
