(Tuesday, April 28, 2026; Dededo, Guam) – Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) proudly announces that Dr. Shadia S. Constantine, MD, MPH, MSc, FACP, has been named GRMC’s 2025 Physician of the Year, one of the organization’s highest honors recognizing exceptional achievement in clinical excellence, leadership, and service to patients and the community.
The Physician of the Year award is presented annually to a physician who exemplifies the highest standards of care and professionalism, while making meaningful contributions to the organization and the communities it serves. This recognition reflects not only excellence in patient care, but also a physician’s ability to lead, mentor, and elevate the practice of medicine within the hospital.
GRMC’s Physician of the Year is selected through a multi-phase process that begins with organization-wide nominations and voting, where physicians are highlighted and voted on by GRMC staff, patients, and visitors. The top five nominees then advance to a formal review and selection process led by executive leadership, ensuring the recognition reflects both the voices of the community and the highest standards of clinical excellence.
Dr. Constantine’s selection highlights her extraordinary service to GRMC since joining the organization in 2017. As an Internal Medicine Hospitalist, she is widely respected for delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while managing complex medical conditions with precision and expertise. Her commitment to her patients, combined with her consistency in clinical excellence, has made her a trusted and valued physician across the organization.
As a board-certified physician and Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Dr. Constantine brings a distinguished academic and global background to her work. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Panama, followed by a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Master of Science in Evidence-Based Health Care from the University of Oxford. Her professional experience spans the United States, Japan, and Panama, where she has held leadership roles in internal medicine, residency training, and clinical education.
In addition to her clinical role, Dr. Constantine serves as GRMC’s Director of Medical Education, where she leads physician training, mentorship, and academic initiatives. She leads GRMC’s SHInE (Summer Hospital INternship Experience) programs: Non-Physician Track and the MD Physician Track—initiatives designed to introduce and guide students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. Through these programs, she is helping to build early pathways for aspiring healthcare professionals while strengthening GRMC’s role as a teaching institution grounded in continuous learning, collaboration, and excellence.
As part of this continued commitment to advancing medical education, GRMC is preparing to launch a three-year Internal Medicine Residency Program, with a targeted start in Summer 2027. This initiative represents a transformative step forward for healthcare in Guam, creating a pathway for physicians to train on-island while serving the community they call and will call home.
“Dr. Constantine has been instrumental in shaping a culture of learning, collaboration, and accountability within our medical staff,” said Dr. Edison Manaloto. “Through her leadership in medical education and her commitment to mentoring physicians at every stage, she continues to strengthen the quality of care we provide and the future of our organization.”
Dr. Constantine added, “I am truly humbled by this recognition. This award belongs as much to the excellent multidisciplinary team that works alongside me as it does to me. I am grateful to be part of a team committed to compassionate, high-quality care, and deeply passionate about growing medical education here at GRMC to serve the future of healthcare in Guam and Micronesia.”
Dr. Constantine’s recognition underscores the caliber of physicians at GRMC and reflects the organization’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while investing in the people who make that care possible.
