(Thursday, October 19, 2023; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical (GRMC) recently added a new member to its Executive Leadership Team. Board-certified internist Dr. Edison P. Manaloto is appointed as GRMC’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Alexander “Beau” Wielaard, who was appointed as interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in August, is officially appointed as GRMC’s CEO.
Dr. Manaloto joined GRMC in June 2020. He was elected as the Chief of the Medical Staff by his peers in 2022. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Manaloto had an eclectic finance career as an auditor with Deloitte, Assistant Director of Finance with the Hyatt Hotels, and served as a budget analyst for both the late Senator Vicente (Ben) Pangelinan and Speaker Benjamin Cruz. He was previously a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
In 2015, Dr. Manaloto completed his medical degree at the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute in the Philippines. He subsequently completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Hawaii in 2020 with a distinction in ultrasonography and returned to Guam as a licensed physician in Guam and Hawaii.
Before his official appointment as CEO, Dr. Wielaard served as an interim for two months while concurrently maintaining his position as CMO— a position he has held since 2020. Dr. Wielaard served as an emergency physician on Guam since 2016, working at both GMHA and GRMC. Two years later, he joined GRMC on a full-time basis and became a core developer of GRMC’s institutional response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Wielaard earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia in 2007, and subsequently completed his internship and residency in Emergency Medicine in Maryland. He has an extensive and diverse background of practicing medicine at inner-city trauma centers, suburban community hospitals, and rural critical access facilities, and volunteered in places like Alaska, the Philippines, and Africa.
