GRMC Urges the Public Not to Delay Getting Healthcare
People Should Still Go to the Hospital for Non-COVID Health Issues
(Monday, February 1, 2021; Dededo, Guam) For nearly a year, Guam has been focused on the COVID-19 pandemic. People have become wary about going to the Emergency Department, even during a medical crisis, out of concern of contracting the virus. Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) wants to reassure the public that our hospital is safe, and we are open to serve you.
Before the start of the pandemic, GRMC had infection control protocols in place which we have enhanced along with our safety procedures, adapting as needed throughout the crisis. We follow strict Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) and federal guidelines to effectively respond to COVID-19 and keep our non-COVID patients safe.
Our Specialty Clinics are open and seeing patients safely. This includes Cardiology and the Heart Failure Clinic, Hematology & Oncology and Infusion Services, Infectious Disease, Neurosciences, Orthopedics, Pulmonology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Rehabilitation Services, Surgical Services, and Patient Education. We continue to offer testing services at GRMC’s COVID-19 Drive-Thru testing sites, located by our Emergency Department (ED), to support our island’s fight against the virus.
For the convenience of our patients, GRMC will soon be opening a new One-Stop Center for laboratory and radiology services. GRMC will make an official announcement before the One-Stop Center opens to the public.
At GRMC, we take your health very seriously. Our hospital is clean, safe, and, ready to serve our people. We thoroughly clean and disinfect all surfaces of our examination rooms, clinics, and wards between patients. In addition to these heightened cleaning protocols, GRMC is disinfected daily from top to bottom with EPA-approved Evaclean™ Protexus Handheld Electrostatic Sprayers and Evaclean™ PURTABS disinfectant cleaner. Evaclean™ disinfectant products are effective against the virus that causes COVID-19.
Please don’t delay getting the care you need, especially in an emergency. Our Specialty Clinics are open and we are seeing patients. If you feel you may be having a heart attack or stroke, our Emergency Department is safe and we strongly urge you to come in for any health-related emergencies.
To ensure your safety, everyone entering GRMC is required to pass a mandatory Security screening, wear an approved mask at all times, and practice social distancing. Masks with valves are not approved. Mandatory Security screenings include temperature and symptom checks, wanding, and a search of all bags. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding that these measures are for everyone.
