GRMC to Begin Easing Visitation Restrictions
New Visiting Policy Goes Into Effect on Monday, May 4
(Friday, May 1, 2020; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) will be making changes to its visiting policies, beginning Monday, May 4, 2020. These changes are aimed at easing some of the restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
GRMC will still observe social distancing and all visitors must wear a mask at all times while in the hospital. Everyone entering GRMC must submit to a screening by Security for temperature and possible COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone who refuses to be screened or wear a mask will not be allowed to enter the hospital.
Visitors are not allowed to roam to other areas of the hospital. The only exception is to go to BOKA CITY cafeteria, City Café, ATM, gift shop, or the vending machines on the first floor. GRMC will continue to observe its “No Food Allowed” policy and no food will be allowed into patient rooms.
INPATIENT VISITATION
Inpatients will be allowed to have one visitor per day for a period of one hour. Visiting hours will be daily from 9 AM to 6 PM; however, to comply with social distancing requirements, specific visiting times have been set. No extension of visitation will be allowed. For more information regarding the allotted visiting times for a patient, please call Customer Relations at 645-5500.
All inpatient visitors must enter through the Main Lobby and submit to a screening by Security for temperature and COVID-19 symptoms.
For those unable to visit their loved ones, GRMC can arrange for a “virtual visit” via video conference calling and one of the donated tablets for the patient to see their family via the internet.
OVERNIGHT VISITORS
Overnight visitors will continue to not be allowed, unless a specific order is given by the patient’s doctor in consultation with nursing staff.
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT (ED)
No visitors allowed in the Emergency department, except for children who may be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.
Anyone visiting the ED must enter through the ED entrance only. ED patient companion(s) will not be allowed to stay, this includes companions for patients who have been admitted but have not yet moved to their room. Companions will be asked to provide a contact number and will be notified of the patient’s condition. Companions may choose to wait in the ED Visitors parking area, which is located near the ED entrance.
SPECIALTY CLINICS
Outpatients who require assistance getting to and from their appointments are allowed one companion per patient. The companion will check in at the Customer Relations desk and be given an orange badge.
Outpatients and their companion must enter through the Main Lobby or east entrance of the hospital.
SURGICAL PATIENTS
Patient companions will not be allowed to wait in the lobby area while procedures are ongoing or being assessed for surgery. The designated companion will be asked to leave their name and contact number and will be notified when the patient’s procedure is finished.
MORGUE VIEWING
At this time, viewing at the morgue remains limited to no more than five (5) people for one hour.
GRMC hopes that our island continues to flatten the curve and we are able to further relax our visitation policies. We urge the community to continue practicing social distancing, good hygiene and wear a mask. Please remember, anyone who refuses to wear a mask will not be allowed to enter GRMC. We apologize for any inconvenience or hardship our visitation policies may cause, but they are necessary to ensure the continuing safety of our patients, visitors, and staff.
