(Monday, January 12, 2026; Dededo, Guam) – The Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) has proudly earned its 4th Joint Commission (TJC) Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation and has also received recertification from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The TJC reaccreditation followed an extensive triennial hospital-wide survey conducted October 7–10, 2025.
The TJC accreditation process is one of the most rigorous and respected healthcare quality evaluations in the nation. Hospitals must demonstrate strong performance across hundreds of standards related to patient safety, quality of care, leadership, emergency readiness, and organizational performance. Achieving this recognition is not easily accomplished — and maintaining accreditation across multiple cycles reflects a deep, ongoing commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery.
Because GRMC is a “deemed status” organization, The Joint Commission survey also determines CMS certification. With GRMC’s successful accreditation outcome, CMS has confirmed that the hospital continues to meet federal healthcare quality and safety requirements and remains certified to care for Medicare and Medicaid patients.
“This reaccreditation reflects the hard work, passion, and professionalism of our GRMC family,” said GRMC CEO Dr. Alexander “Beau” Wielaard. “Surveyors shared how impressed they were with our staff — from patient care and performance improvement to facilities and emergency management. Our team continues to demonstrate commitment to excellence in every area of service.”
One surveyor noted, “You started a hospital to address the lack of specialty care on island and to serve the people of Guam — and that is a fantastic and admirable vision. You’ve accomplished so much.”
For the Guam community, these achievements mean greater confidence and assurance in the quality of care available on-island. Patients and families can trust that GRMC delivers care that meets the same standards as leading hospitals across the United States — while remaining close to home. Accreditation also reflects GRMC’s dedication to continuous improvement, safety, transparency, and patient-centered care.
