Guam Regional Medical City Celebrates 10 Years

Guam Regional Medical City Celebrates 10 Years “Our Island. Our Hospital. 10 Years of Caring.”

“(Wednesday, July 16, 2025; Dededo, Guam) – Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) proudly commemorates its 10th anniversary, “Our Island. Our Hospital. 10 Years of Caring”, this July with a series of exciting activities for both staff and the island community. This milestone marks a decade of GRMC’s unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare services and transforming patient care in Guam.

“Ten years ago, GRMC set out to redefine healthcare in our region,” shared Dr. Alexander “Beau” Wielaard, GRMC’s CEO. “This month, we celebrate how far we’ve come, made possible by the trust of our patients, the commitment of our staff, and the support of our partners. This anniversary is a celebration together with our community and a ‘thank you’ to the countless people who have made GRMC what it is today.”

“Every achievement over the past decade reflects the passion, resilience, and purpose-driven work of our staff. From delivering life-saving care to introducing advanced specialty services while standing strong through times of crisis, GRMC has grown into so much more than a hospital. I am very proud of what our team of over 1000 staff do every day, and I sincerely hope our island is too. As we look to the future, GRMC intends to be a leader in innovation and elevation of care quality, working to expand access to everyone who needs us.”

Over the past decade, GRMC has marked numerous milestones in advancing healthcare. While there are many achievements to be proud of, the following are just some of the key highlights that reflect GRMC’s growth and impact over the years. From breaking ground in 2011 to officially opening its doors on July 1, 2015, GRMC has continued to evolve. Notable highlights include:
• The launch of its first and longest-running community outreach program, “Walk with GRMC”
• Opening of its Cardiac Catheterization Lab
• Establishment of the Heart Failure Clinic

GRMC earned both CMS Certification and Joint Commission (TJC) Accreditation, and it has since earned multiple reaccreditations.
The hospital also pioneered services such as:

• Telehealth Program for lung cancer with UCLA Health
• Drive-thru COVID testing for the public”
• Specialized outpatient infusion clinic during the pandemic

GRMC has been recognized for excellence through honors such as Stars and Stripes’ Best Off-Base Medical
Service in both 2022 and 2023, and the Advanced Primary Stroke Center certification from TJC.

Most recently, in 2025, GRMC’s surgical technologists became the first on Guam to earn national certification,
continuing the hospital’s legacy of clinical advancement and professional development.

To commemorate GRMC’s 10th Year Anniversary, the hospital will unveil a 10-Year Milestone Timeline, a visual
display capturing key moments in the hospital’s history. This commemorative installation will be shared with
invited guests as part of GRMC’s efforts to reflect on a decade of progress and impact.
