Patient Safety Awareness Week 2025

(Monday, March 3, 2025; Dededo, Guam) — Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) is hosting
Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW) from March 2 to 8, 2025, a national initiative dedicated
to advancing discussions about patient safety within healthcare systems. This year’s theme,
“Moving the Needle,” is all about teamwork, making sure everyone–patients, visitors, and
healthcare workers– are safe and supported.

PSAW is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on how patient safety training and education
allows the hospital to deliver top-notch care. It’s about making sure that errors are prevented
with improved outcomes and building trust between everyone in the healthcare community.
This year, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) is joining GRMC for the
first time, bringing in some fresh insights and training to support the hospital’s goal of keeping
the island’s healthcare safer than ever.

Training & Interactive Fun
While PSAW training sessions are for GRMC staff only, there’s plenty of fun for patients and
visitors too! During the week, GRMC will have interactive booths and engaging stations where
you can learn about all kinds of helpful safety tips like hand hygiene, fall prevention, proper
body mechanics, and suicide awareness.
The training sessions are designed to reinforce essential safety protocols, equip staff with the
latest best practices, and ensure a hospital-wide commitment to patient safety. By attending,
employees will strengthen their ability to identify and mitigate risks, ultimately creating a safer
healthcare environment. Plus, this is a great opportunity for patients and visitors to get
involved, ask questions, and take home valuable information to keep you and your loved ones
safe.

Schedule
Training sessions will take place at GRMC’s Lower Lobby, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th floors on the following
dates:
• March 4, 2025, 9 AM – 12 PM
• March 5, 2025, 9 AM – 12 PM
• March 6, 2025, 6 PM – 9 PM

“We’re excited to host PSAW and take patient safety to the next level,” said Michael Khan,
GRMC’s Quality and Patient Safety Officer. “It’s all about moving forward together. ‘Moving the
Needle’ isn’t just a theme; it’s a reminder that every step, no matter how small, makes a big
difference in keeping our patients and staff safe. Patient safety is at the heart of everything we
do at GRMC. We come together to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the highest standard
of care for every patient.

Although PSAW training is exclusive to staff, GRMC encourages all patients and visitors to stop
by the interactive booths for a great way to learn how to play an active role in your own safety
and well-being. #PatientSafetyStartsWithMe
