GRMC Proudly Announces Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Bishoy ElBebawy as the 2024 Physician of the Year
(Wednesday, April 2, 2025; Dededo, Guam) — Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) proudly announces Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Bishoy ElBebawy, as the hospital’s 2024 Physician of the Year (POTY). The special ceremony was held in the hospital’s 1st floor lobby, gathered around by GRMC physicians, nurses, and staff to celebrate Dr. ElBebawy. This award is presented annually to a physician who exemplifies GRMC’s iCARE values:

The POTY award is one of GRMC’s highest honors, recognizing a physician whose dedication, expertise, and compassionate care have made a lasting impact on patients and colleagues alike. Recipients are chosen through a voting process that includes input from staff, patients, and visitors, ensuring that the winner truly represents the core values of the hospital. More than just a title, this accolade highlights the critical role physicians play in shaping the culture of healthcare excellence at GRMC and reinforcing the hospital’s mission: To care for our patients, their families, and our employees as we would a beloved family member.

As the anticipation grew, attendees eagerly awaited the announcement of the hospital’s Physician of the Year. The moment was met with enthusiastic applause as Dr. ElBebawy’s photo was unveiled on a pull-down banner, marking the highlight of the POTY event. Dr. ElBebawy received overwhelming support in the voting process, emerging as the top choice among the outstanding team of medical professionals at GRMC. The award was presented by GRMC’s Executive Leadership team.

Dr. ElBebawy’s Heartfelt Acceptance Speech
In his acceptance speech, Dr. ElBebawy expressed deep gratitude for the honor, emphasizing the collective efforts of his colleagues.

“This recognition is for everyone—it’s not just for me. Everyone is gifted with some skill, and this is an appreciation and recognition of all who contributed. Without the dedication of those who care for patients in the clinics, none of this would have been achieved. I am grateful to represent this honor and thankful for everyone who voted for me. I hope this year brings more achievements, and I look forward to seeing the next physician stand here with even more to celebrate.”

About Dr. Bishoy ElBebawy
Dr. ElBebawy is a board-certified interventional cardiologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel conditions through advanced catheter-based procedures. He holds board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, as well as credentials from the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) and the National Board of Echocardiography.

Dr. ElBebawy first came to Guam as a direct locum’s provider for GRMC in 2023. The recruitment of Dr. ElBebawy to the island has been part of GRMC’s commitment to fill critical gaps in specialized cardiac care on the island. Since his arrival, Dr. ElBebawy has become affiliated with the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority and Guam Radiology Consultants, extending his expertise to benefit the entire island.

Beyond his medical expertise, Dr. ElBebawy is known for his warm and engaging personality. When not treating patients, he enjoys cooking, soccer, snorkeling, traveling, and photography. Fluent in Arabic and English, with conversational French, he embraces the diverse cultures within Guam’s community.
