GRMC to Open Urology Center this July
Hospital welcomes local urologists Dr. Fenton and Dr. Petero
(Thursday, May 30, 2024; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) is expanding its scope of specialty care to provide urology services, which is the treatment of surgical and medical diseases of the urinary tract system and the male reproductive system. Beginning Monday, July 1, 2024, GRMC will open its new Urology Center that will be led by local urologists, Dr. Ann Fenton and Dr. Virgilio Petero from the former Guam Urology Clinic.
GRMC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Alexander “Beau” Wielaard said, “We are excited for Drs. Fenton and Petero to join our team to help GRMC expand urology care on Guam. This marks a significant milestone in our journey towards strengthening our island’s healthcare infrastructure by expanding locally accessible and high-quality specialty care. With a team of highly skilled urologists equipped with the latest medical technologies, GRMC will be able to grow a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical interventions tailored to better serve the healthcare needs of our community.”
Dr. Ann Fenton is a board-certified urologist, who has been practicing medicine for over 25 years. Her primary areas of interest include urolithiasis, urethral obstruction and disease, urologic endoscopy, and prostate disease. Dr. Fenton earned her medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in Louisiana and completed residency in Texas at the Wilford Hall Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center, and the University of Texas Health Science Center. She is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Similarly, Dr. Virgilio Petero Jr. is a practicing urologist with over 20 years of experience and is certified by the Philippine Board of Urology and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. His special interests include Genito-urinary malignancies, renal surgery, urolithiasis, and prostate diseases. Dr. Petero completed his education in the Philippines, earning his medical degree at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City and his residency at the University of Santo Thomas in Manila. He later completed Kidney Transplant Training at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
