(Tuesday, May 16, 2023; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) held its celebration of National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week throughout the week of May 6-13, 2023.
GRMC’s President & CEO, Alan Funtanilla, said, “This week of recognition is pivotal in commemorating our employee partners, who, day after day, tirelessly dedicate their service to providing safe and quality patient care. They are the heart of National Hospital and Nurses Week.”
On Monday, May 8th, the GRMC executive team, managers, and staff attended the Annual Hospital Week Opening Ceremonies held at the Guam Memorial Hospital front lawn that kicked off the week’s festivities. During her address, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero said, “As we celebrate this very important week and day, our administration is proud to recognize all the men and women who work hard every day to provide high-quality, compassionate care to our island’s patients and their families.” Acknowledging, not only hospital clinical staff, but their administrative and support staff for their collaborative efforts, she continued, “Because of [the hospitals’] strong workforce, our hospitals have been the source of hope and help through our darkest journeys, not only as the people but as an island—open through long difficult days and nights; staff with committed teams doing their jobs. It is not exaggerating when we describe hospitals as indispensable community assets, providing critical support, as we build a new era of prosperity for Guam.”
Later that day, GRMC joined GMH at the Chief Quipuha Loop in Hagåtña for the Annual Hospital Week wave at 4:30 pm.
GRMC staff participated in the annual Hospital Week Friendship Games, which consisted of billiards, volleyball, and basketball.
The billiards tournament was scheduled for 6:30pm on Friday, May 12th, at Buddy’s Billiards & Brew in Tamuning. Teams from Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) and U.S. Naval Hospital Guam (USNHG) attended. Team GMHA took first place; Teams USNHG took second and third place.
The volleyball tournament took place the following day— 9:30am on Saturday, May 13th, at the Talofofo Gym. Teams from GMHA and GRMC attended. Team GRMC led in all three sets, declaring GRMC the winner of the volleyball tournament. Scores were as follows (GRMC – GMHA):

The battle between Team GMHA and Team GRMC continued later that day in a ‘Best of Three’ basketball
