(Thursday, February 3, 2022; Dededo, Guam) Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) announced its 2021 Employee of the Year on Friday, January 28, 2022, and the honoree was Roger Arellano, Facilities & CUP (Central Utilities Plant) Manager. Arellano joined GRMC in 2015 and has been a constant asset to GRMC since his first day.
“Roger has an exemplary work ethic and his dedication to GRMC often means he and his team work very long hours, but they never complain. Roger is an excellent leader, keeping his people motivated and performing beyond expectations,” said CEO/President Alan Funtanilla. “This accolade is well deserved. GRMC is very fortunate to have an employee like Roger with such high personal integrity and leadership skills.”
GRMC’s Facility and CUP team work around the clock and often on weekends. They do it willingly and with a smile. They do it for GRMC and their boss, Arellano. Under his leadership, he has fostered an atmosphere of camaraderie and commitment to GRMC. Arellano is the kind of manager who doesn’t ask his team to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. He is the type of leader who encourages his team to always aim for excellence.
Roger was nominated by Marketing Manager Chalorna “Charly” Lauron, who said, “Roger is honest and kind. Whenever Roger and his team are involved in a project, I have full confidence that the job will get done on time,” she said, “He is respected by his team, and he treats them fairly and with high regard. In everything he does, he always strives for the best.”
The morning of the announcement, Roger was on leave and the GRMC Moral Committee arranged to surprise him at his home with baked goods, his award, notification of an assigned parking spot for a year, and the grand prize of $5,000.
