GRMC Receives Joint Commission Accreditation

(Friday, November 9, 2018) Guam Regional Medical City was recently re-accredited by The Joint Commission after a three-day inspection that took place from October 23 – 25, 2018.

“Our team worked well to meet the demanding schedule The Joint Commission set for them, which had to be put on hold midway through to accommodate preparations for Typhoon Yutu,” said GRMC president and COO Dr. Michael Cruz. “The schedule was tight, but our team was up for the task. On the final day, the lead surveyor told the team they had much to be proud of and that she wouldn’t hesitate to come to GRMC to have care provided for herself. That meant a lot to us.”

The Joint Commission conducts their in-depth inspections on a triennial basis. While hospitals may be aware they are up for review during a given year, the inspections are conducted spontaneously without notice.

“We passed our inspection with flying colors and have been fully and unconditionally reaccredited,” said GRMC Board Chairwoman and CEO Margaret Bengzon, “I would like to congratulate and thank our team for once again coming together under challenging circumstances and showcasing the best of GRMC. I would also like to thank the community for their continued confidence in GRMC. The Joint Commission accreditation is important to us, but your trust in GRMC to care for you and your families is what truly matters most.”

GRMC’s Joint Commission re-accreditation status will last for three years.
