Dr. Okumura is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine with a sub-specialty in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Yoshito Okumura has been with GRMC since July 2017. He was part of our Emergency Department until April 2021, when he became GRMC’s first Sports Medicine doctor.
He earned his medical degree at Nara Medical University in Nara, Japan. Dr. Okumura completed his general residency at the Chubu-Tokushukai Hospital in Okinawa City where he rose to the position of Chief Resident in charge of all emergency medicine and general physician programs.
Dr. Okumura completed a rotating internship at the Camp Lester U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa before entering the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. At North Shore he completed an Emergency Medicine Ultrasound and Sports Medicine Fellowships.
Dr. Okumura is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine with a sub-specialty in Sports Medicine. He is licensed to practice medicine in Japan and Guam. Dr. Okumura is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
He is a native speaker of Japanese and fluent in English. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Okumura likes to spend time in the garden, teaching his children about nature.
