Biography

Xiaodong “David” Zhai earned his Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, where he developed advanced clinical expertise in anesthesia management, perioperative safety, and evidence-based practice. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston School of Nursing.

His anesthesia training included a 20-month clinical residency at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – Academic Medical Center in Louisiana, where he gained extensive experience administering anesthesia for general, cardiac, obstetric, and regional procedures. He also completed specialized rotations at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi and Odessa Regional Medical Center, where he advanced his skills in cardiac anesthesia and nerve block techniques, respectively.

Before becoming a CRNA, David worked as a Critical Care Nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston and at Kindred Hospital Clear Lake. His ICU experience—caring for critically ill, ventilated, and post-operative patients—helped build his strong clinical foundation and attention to detail in patient management.

Now a valued member at GRMC, David brings his diverse clinical expertise and compassionate approach to patient care. His background in high-acuity academic and trauma environments has shaped his ability to remain composed and precise in every anesthesia setting—from routine procedures to complex surgical interventions.

Outside of the hospital, David enjoys traveling to nearby Asian countries and exploring the rich culture events and unique island life of Guam.
