Biography

Dr. John Reinier Narvaez is a general and trauma surgeon and surgical intensivist, who joined GRMC in August 2023.

Dr. Narvaez attained his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 2015. Prior to his doctoral pursuit, he studied Biology-Physiology with a Chemistry Minor at California State University Long Beach, finishing Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. In his previous life, he was a nursing undergraduate at the Makati Medical Center College of Nursing in the Philippines. In 2019, he completed a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Services Administration at the University at Buffalo, where he simultaneously completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship for Transplant Surgical Outcomes Research. He completed his general surgery residency at the same institution. Upon completing his residency, he was voted by his peers and medical students as the recipient of the ‘UB Department of Surgery Worthington Schenk Resident Teacher of the Year Award’—one of many awards attained throughout his medical education and training. Dr. Narvaez completed his fellowship in Surgical Critical Care from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California in July 2023, just before arriving in Guam.

Dr. Narvaez is professionally associated with the American College of Surgeons, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Association for Academic Surgery, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He currently holds licensure to practice in California, New York, and Guam.

When Dr. Narvaez is not with patients, he loves spending quality time with his family, playing basketball, and hanging out on the beach. He is a Golden State Warriors fan.
