Dr. Makoto Tanigawa is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician at Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC). He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Tanigawa earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland Medical School and his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He brings experience in emergency care, medical education, research, and academic medicine to GRMC.
Dr. Makoto Tanigawa is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician serving patients at Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC). He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 2020 to 2023, where he also served as Chief Resident during his final year of training.
Dr. Tanigawa earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2020. He previously earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2013. He is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
Prior to joining GRMC, Dr. Tanigawa served as an Assistant Professor with Medical Faculty Associates at George Washington University Hospital. His professional experience also includes serving as an attending physician at the Washington D.C. VA Medical Center and United Medical Center. He has also been involved in medical education, research, and the training of medical students and residents throughout his career.
As part of GRMC’s Emergency Medicine team, Dr. Tanigawa is committed to providing timely, comprehensive, and patient-centered emergency care to patients throughout Guam and the region.
Outside of professional duties, Dr. Tanigawa enjoys making music, bouldering, playing the piano, and playing baseball and ultimate frisbee.
