Nurse Practitioner

Lena Leishman | ADN, BSN, APRN, MSN, FNP-C

Lena currently holds licensure as a Registered Nurse and as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in Guam, Oregon, and Virginia. She also holds a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Verification, and multiple certifications with the American Heart Association for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Biography

Lena Leishman is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and GRMC’s Medical Staff Informatics Officer. She joined GRMC in 2017 as a Hospitalist, where she collaborated with various physicians, patients, and interdisciplinary teams to manage the care of patients and their needs. In 2018, Lena transitioned into the Emergency Department and Urgent Care.

Lena began her journey in nursing in Richmond, Virginia as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where she attained her Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) at J Sergeant Reynolds Community College in 2010. Less than a year later, she concurrently pursued her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating in 2015. She later became certified as an FNP-C by passing the national certification exam administered by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Upon earning her ADN, Lena also embarked on her career— working as a Clinical Nurse for the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in acute care surgery until 2013; she later transferred to the emergency department for three years. In 2016, she worked as an emergency department Travel Nurse in various states, such as Arizona, Colorado, and California.

With a passion for providing care for others, Lena has volunteered her services to medical missions— setting up mobile clinics in rural areas surrounding San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic, as well as Hinche, Haite.

Lena currently holds licensure as a Registered Nurse and as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in Guam, Oregon, and Virginia. Aside from GRMC, Lena is a care provider at FHP Urgent Care. In her spare time, Lena enjoys dancing and water activities, such as, scuba diving and paddle boarding. She volunteers her spare time to animal welfare and rescue organizations— working towards solutions to the island’s animal overpopulation. Recently, she established a dog training business with a local partner with hopes to integrate that passion into a medical therapy dog program for inpatient and outpatient settings.
