Biography

Dr. Bishoy ElBebawy joins GRMC as an interventional cardiologist. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel conditions using advanced catheter-based techniques through modern technological interventions such as intravascular imaging and invasive physiology to help guide stent selection, placement, and deployment. Dr. ElBebawy’s expertise extends to addressing coronary artery disease, heart valve disorders, peripheral artery disease, heart failure, abnormal heart rhythm as well as heart disease prevention. He also performs Transesophageal Echocardiography, Cardiac Stress testing, implantation of heart monitoring, and pacemaker devices.

Dr. ElBebawy was born and raised in Egypt, where he also completed medical school at Ain Shams University in Cairo. Upon graduation in 2013, he moved to the United States, where he completed rotations at the Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan, the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He returned to New York for residency at Columbia University – Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York. It was while working on several research projects that Dr. ElBebawy affirmed his love for Cardiology. Subsequently, Dr. ElBebawy began his fellowship at Lake Erie College of Medicine in New York and completed it at Loma Linda University in California. He also completed training in cardiac CT angiography at Sentara Heart Hospital in Virginia. His final training stop was at Michigan State University – McLaren Healthcare, where he completed his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship and became a clinical instructor of medicine, teaching residents, general cardiology fellows, and medical students.

Dr. ElBebawy is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) for Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He also holds Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) board certification and is an Adult Comprehensive Echocardiography Diplomate with the National Board of Echocardiography. Dr. ElBebawy is currently licensed to practice in California, New York, Michigan, and now Guam.

When Dr. ElBebawy is not with patients, he loves cooking, soccer, snorkeling, traveling, and photography. Besides English, he is a native Arabic speaker and knows conversational French.
