Lung Cancer Screening Available at GRMC

(Monday, February 9, 2026; Dededo, Guam) – Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) is now offering lung cancer screening through its Lung Nodule Screening Program, using low-dose CT (LDCT) scans to help detect lung cancer early.

Lung cancer remains one of the most serious health threats in our community, and early detection plays a critical role in improving outcomes. Because symptoms may not appear right away, screening can help identify concerns sooner—where treatment may be more effective and survival rates can improve.

What is a Low-Dose CT (LDCT) Screening?
A low-dose CT (LDCT) screening is a quick, painless scan that takes detailed images of the lungs using less radiation than a standard chest CT. It can help detect small lung nodules or other early changes that may be signs of lung cancer, often before symptoms begin. The scan is non-invasive and typically takes only a few minutes, with images captured in seconds while the patient lies comfortably on a table that moves through the CT scanner.

GRMC’s Pulmonology Center provides high-quality, patient-focused care with expert follow-up for a wide range of lung and respiratory conditions. Patients who complete lung cancer screening through GRMC will also have access to continued support and coordinated care from the hospital’s pulmonology specialists, including Dr. Christina Rhee, Dr. Klaus Meinhof, Dr. Michael Agustin, and Dr. Murali Kondapaneni.

“Lung cancer screening allows us to find cancer before it becomes advanced,” said Dr. Rhee. “When lung cancer is found at an early stage, treatment is often highly effective and, in many cases, potentially curative—something that is far less likely once the disease has progressed.”

“We encourage everyone to talk with their primary care provider about whether lung cancer screening is right for them,” added Dr. Murali. “For many patients, this simple scan can provide answers sooner, reduce uncertainty, and offer peace of mind—because when it comes to lung cancer, timing truly matters.”

GRMC’s specialists emphasize that this program is about protecting the community and giving patients the best chance possible.

Who May Be Eligible for Screening?
Individuals may qualify for lung cancer screening if they meet the following criteria:

  • Age 50–80
  • Smoking history of 20 pack-years or more
  • Current smoker, or former smoker who quit within the last 15 years
