(Wednesday, May 14, 2025; Dededo, Guam) – Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) is proud to announce the launch of two summer programs designed to give aspiring healthcare professionals an inside look at the world of medicine: the SHINE Bootcamp (Summer Hospital Immersive Experience) and the SHInE M.D. Physician Track (Summer Hospital Internship Experience).
These unique, educational experiences aim to inspire the next generation of healthcare leaders by providing hands-on learning, real-world exposure, and invaluable interactions with medical professionals.
“This program is an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of healthcare providers,” said Charlotte Huntsman, GRMC’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “We hope the SHINE Program encourages students to envision a future where they can make a meaningful impact in healthcare on our island.”
Dr. Shadia Constantine, GRMC’s Internal Medicine Hospitalist, excitedly adds, “SHInE M.D. gives students a front-row seat to the practice of medicine. They will not only see what it takes to be a physician but begin to imagine their place in the future of healthcare in Guam.”
SHINE Bootcamp: 3-Day Hospital Immersive Experience
Application Deadline: May 26, 2025 | Minimum of 15 years of age Session 1: June 9-11, 2025
Session: June 23-25, 2025
The SHINE Bootcamp is an in-depth, three-day introduction to hospital life, offering students and young adults an opportunity to explore the diverse roles within a healthcare setting. Through hospital tours, CPR training, and department rotations, participants will gain a foundational understanding of patient care, hospital operations, and the many career paths available in healthcare.
Day-by-Day Overview:
Day 1 – Introduction to Hospital Life: Walking tours, CPR training, and infection prevention
Day 2 – Patient Care Through Therapy Departments: Exposure to physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy
Day 3 – Nursing and Beyond: Explore the field of nursing with representatives from the various specialties within the dynamic nursing field.
SHInE M.D. Physician Track: 4-Week Internship Experience
Application Deadline: June 17, 2025 | Minimum 16 years of age Program start date: July 7 – August 1, 2025
Designed for individuals with a deeper interest in becoming a doctor, the SHInE M.D. Physician Track offers a four-week opportunity to shadow GRMC physicians and nurse practitioners and explore the clinical side of hospital care. Participants will rotate through GRMC’s Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Critical Care, and Specialty Services, gaining valuable insights into medical decision-
making and the patient-provider relationship.
