Hematologist-Oncologist

William Ryan, M.D.

Dr. Ryan is currently affiliated with the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Oncology Association, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Biography

Dr. William Ryan is a hematology-oncologist with over 35 years of expertise as a medical practitioner, administrator, and educator. Prior to joining GRMC as locum tenens, he currently serves as a medical oncologist at the Beebe Healthcare Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth, Delaware.

Dr. Ryan earned his medical degree at the State University of New York at the Downstate College of Medicine in 1979. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at the St. Vincent’s Hospital of New York and subsequently fulfilled his Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship at Brown University in Rhode Island.

Dr. Ryan began his career practicing Internal Medicine with the Staten Island Medical Group. He then moved to Pennsylvania, where he served as an oncologist with the Medical Associates of Monroe County for 11 years, and later with the Medical Oncology Associates of Pocono Medical Center for 16 years in East Stroudsburg. In 2015, Dr. Ryan taught as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton for two years. He relocated to Hawaii in 2018, where he served at the North Hawaii Community Hospital for two years and briefly at Hilo Medical Center.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ryan has held several administrative and leadership positions. Most recently, he was the Director of Medical Oncology at the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center. He has previously served as the medical director of VNN Hospice of Monroe County, a member of the Oncology Service Line and Management, president and board member of the American Cancer Society- Monroe County Chapter, and the Medical Oncology Advisor of the Cancer Committee of the Pocono Medical Center.

Dr. Ryan has earned multiple accolades in his career including ‘The Jean Golden Lifetime Achievement Award’ from the American Cancer Society in 1994 and ‘Physician of the Year’ in 2014 at the Pocono Medical Center.

Dr. Ryan is currently affiliated with the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Oncology Association, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

In his spare time, Dr. Ryan loves to swim and travel.
